About us
The “Gijjak Performance” Creative Association is an organisation founded to preserve and develop national instrumental performance and pass it on to the next generation.
About the association
The association operates under registration certificate No. 1187. Its remit is to preserve the gijjak performance school, train professional performers and promote Uzbek musical heritage internationally.
The association works nationwide: representatives of the executive director operate in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, in every region and in Tashkent.
Goals and objectives
Preserving heritage
Collecting, documenting and archiving the traditional schools, styles and repertoire of gijjak performance.
Training performers
Supporting young performers together with music schools, colleges and universities.
International outreach
Presenting Uzbek instrumental art to the world through international festivals, competitions and tours.
Research
Producing scholarly publications and teaching guides on the instrument's history, construction and playing techniques.
Concert activity
Organising concerts and educational events nationwide and bringing ensembles together.
Media and archive
Preserving the art through audio recording, video production and a digital library.
Organisational structure
In the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the regions and the city of Tashkent there is one full-time representative of the Executive Director. The total headcount is capped at 22.5 positions.
